Managing your business devices

If you look at the home screen of your phone, how many apps do you have on there? Dozens, hundreds?

If it’s your own personal device then that’s one thing, but on a business phone you would ideally like to see a bit more management of what appears.

This is a whole industry to itself – called MDM or Mobile Device Management – and MDM systems allow you to control what apps are allowed as well as which ones need to be on all devices.

Furthermore, MDM can allow you to setup a phone or tablet remotely, to the extent where you simply order a new device from Apple or your mobile provider, and as soon as you power it up it will connect to the internet and download the company configuration.

Another useful function is the ability to remotely wipe a device – so if it is stolen or goes missing, you can set it to wipe all data off itself next time it is online.
